U17 Boys Coaching Staff  
Head Coach - Jackson Parker
Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Jackson Parker moved to Calgary late in 2007 and has been involved with basketball in the province ever since. Beginning with a chance encounter with coach Shawnee Harle at her 'Awesome Hoops' summer camp, his journey to date has made stops at every level of basketball including Jr. High, High School, Club, Centre for Performance, Provincial Team and as an assistant coach with the University of Calgary Men's Basketball team. Jackson is going into his second season as the Basketball Alberta U17 Boys head coach having led the team last summer with assistants Eric Kerkhoven and Luc Stevenson. Jackson is currently in his first year of teaching at Cochrane High School.
 

Assistant Coach - Marvin Washington
Marvin Washington has been coaching within the Basketball Alberta System since 2012. In 2012 he was the Zone 6 Summer Games head coach, in 2013 he was an assistant coach for the Boys U15 team, and in 2014 he was an assistant coach for the Boys U16 team. Marvin brings more than 15 years of coaching experience to the Boys U17 team. Since moving to Alberta in 2006, Marvin has coached jr high, community, and club basketball all with great success.
Marvin works as a professor of strategic management at the University of Alberta
 
U17 Girls Coaching Staff  

Head Coach - Dave Oldham
Dave Oldham is the 14 year head coach of the Spruce Grove Panthers Senior girls basketball program. Through the building of this high school program, Dave has had opportunities to work extensively in our basketball community. Dave served as an assistant for three years with the Concordia Thunder of the ACAC, head coached the Basketball Canada CP program, served as an Assistant Coach with the U15 Provincial Team, and guest coached at the Basketball Canada U16 West ID camp. Dave is looking forward to working with the elite basketball players that will make up the U17 Provincial Team.
 

Assistant Coach - Megan Pinske
Megan is in her second season as an assistant coach with the University of Alberta Pandas basketball team. She is also in her final year of completing her Master’s in Coaching at the U of A. Megan, originally from British Columbia, was brought up through the Centre for Performance and Provincial team system participating on the U14, 15, 16 and 17 teams. She received her degree from Western Washington University with a major in communication and a minor in sport psych. Megan played varsity basketball for Western Washington and went on to play professionally in Germany. Coach Megan played on various teams within the Canadian National team program since 2005 and this summer is the Cadet Women’s National team manager/apprentice coach. In 2014 she was the AB U15 lead assistant as well as the head coach for the U17 Jr. Pandas. This year she was Edmonton’s Centre for Performance Head Coach.
 
U16 Boys Coaching Staff  
Head Coach - Thomas Slifka
Current assistant coach at MacEwan University. Former head coach at Kent State-Tuscarawas, assistant at University of Alberta, and assistant of U16 Provincial team.

Assistant Coach - Shayne Midford
Coach Shayne Midford has been involved in all facets of basketball for over 20 years as both a player and coach.  He has been involved with Basketball Alberta as a player at the Arctic Winter Games (under Coach Dave Drabiuk), as an instructor at the Old’s Basketball Camps and as a coach at the Alberta Summer games for both men and women from the Northeast Zone.  Coach Midford has had success at Assumption School in Cold Lake where he has coached the Varsity Men for the past 16 years, winning numerous Zone Championships and a Sportsmanship banner in 2007.  During the off-season Coach Midford coaches the Swoosh D1 Elites who compete in the Alberta Club circuit and travel to the United States for elite competitions.  He currently holds a Masters in Coaching, is a Full Level 3 certified coach and has his FIBA Certification card.  Coach Midford is excited to work with coach Luc Stevenson and the group of young men vying to be part of Team Alberta.

U16 Girls Coaching Staff  

Head Coach - Dave Waknuk
In his fourth consecutive summer with the Basketball Alberta Provincial program, Dave returns as Head Coach for the U16 Girls team in 2015.  Last year, he helped lead the U16 squad to a Gold Medal at the 2014 Western Canadian Basketball Championships in Edmonton, which was the first gold finish for any Team Alberta squad in the last five years.

Dave was previously an Assistant Coach with the U15 program in 2012 and then an Assistant for the U17 Alberta team that finished fourth at the Canada Summer Games in 2013.  He is a certified NCCP “Train to Compete” coach, as well as holding his FIBA Certification License.

Dave is currently the Head Coach of the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves Women’s Basketball program.  He has been there for the past ten seasons, where he helped guide the team to the ACAC Championship in 2010/2011.  In that same year, he was named the ACAC North Division Coach of the Year.  Driven by his passion for the game, Dave Waknuk and the U16 program are gearing up for another great summer.
 

Assistant Coach - Graeme Ryder
Graeme returns for his second summer with the Team Alberta U16 program this year, as he was an assistant coach with the Western Canadian Championships Gold Medal squad last summer. 

Last summer, Graeme was also involved with BA as the head Coach of the U14 Zone 8 boys team that competed at the 2014 Alberta Summer Games.  He is a trained NCCP “Train To Compete” coach and will bring his energy and knowledge of the game to this year’s U16 program.

Graeme is currently the lead assistant coach for the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves Women’s Basketball program, which is the same school that he spent his four-year college-playing career at.
 

Assistant Coach - Andria Carlyon
Andria joins Basketball Alberta for her first season with the program.  Andria is arecent graduate from the University of Alberta, where she played for Pandas Basketball for three years.  She was an influential member throughout her time there and was named a Canada West first team All-Star in 2014.

Carlyon began her basketball career at Grande Prairie Regional College and helped lead GPRC to an ACAC Gold medal in 10/11. She was also awarded the CCAA Female Athlete of the Year in Basketball in 2011.

Andria is the current lead assistant with the Augustana Vikings Women’s Basketball program.  She will bring her work ethic and enthusiasm to the Team Alberta Coaching staff this season, as the team competes at the Western Canada Summer Games.
 
U15 Boys Coaching Staff  

Head Coach - Slav Kornik
Is in his first season as the head coach of the senior boys team at Strathcona Composite High School in Edmonton, after having previously coached at his alma mater Archbishop O’Leary High School. In 2014, he had the privilege to be an assistant coach of the Basketball Alberta U15 Boys team, and has coached Basketball Alberta’s Centre for Performance Edmonton boys over the past couple years.

Slav started playing basketball at 10-years-old, and has had a love for the game ever since. He was fortunate to play competitive basketball for over 10 years, which included four years at NAIT, where he was a captain of the 2003 CCAA National Championship team and two ACAC championship teams. Slav also had the opportunity to play on an Alberta provincial team as a player. Having the chance to now coach the game he loves and help players work toward their goals has been truly rewarding. He is excited to be the head coach of the Basketball Alberta U15 boys team, and look forward to a great spring and summer of basketball. 
 
Assistant Coach - Matt Barreio
Matt Barreiro brings 8 years of head high school coaching experience as well as 5 year of coaching experience at the university level (including 2 at the Division II level, 2 at the NAIA level in the US). Matt is currently the head men’s basketball coach at The King’s University in Edmonton Alberta. Matt was an All-State high school player in Spokane, Washington and played at a Junior College in Washington before transferring to Arizona Christian University in Phoenix, Arizona. Matt is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
 
U15 Girls Coaching Staff  
Head Coach - Drew Hanson
Drew steps into the 15U Girls Provincial Team Head Coaching role, returning from a summer off after four previous seasons with Basketball Alberta - one as a 15U assistant, two as a 17U assistant, and one as the 16U Head Coach. His other coaching experience includes five years as the Senior Women's Head Coach at Ross Sheppard High School and this year is spending his first season as a University of Alberta Pandas Assistant Coach. "Off the court," Drew is studying at the U of A to complete his Master's Degree in Coaching, including a capping project hoping to identify a new statistical method for evaluating individual players' impact on team success.
 

Assistant Coach - Kelly Lyons
Augustana Women’s Head Coach (Acting), Kelly Lyons, graduated with a Masters in Physical Education and Sports Psychology from the University of Alberta where she was Captain of the Women’s Basketball Team for two of her three years as a U of A Panda. Lyons started every game in her final season, helping her lead her team to a Canada West Bronze and overall sixth at CIS Nationals.
Lyons has been involved for the past 10 years coaching, mentoring and providing youth with guidance and training in basketball and other sports, most recently as Head Coach of the U-14 Junior Pandas Club Basketball Team.
Active in the community as a motivational speaker addressing young female groups, Lyons implemented a performance enhancement training program as sports psychology consultant for the U13, U15, U17 Junior Pandas teams. She has started her own sports psychology consulting practice and is involved with the Centre for Performance of Basketball Alberta’s Development Team.
Lyons has been a sessional instructor at the U of A North Campus, and taught the basics of teaching/coaching basketball. Lyons also Captained the Carleton Ravens during her undergraduate degree after playing NCAA Division I at Oakland University.
 

Assistant Coach - Lauren Green 
Lauren Green has progressed through various levels of coaching within Edmonton in the last 11 years. She has a BPE with a dual concentration in Coaching and Sports Performance, and a BEd, both from the University of Alberta. Lauren has been the Head Coach of the Senior Women at Jasper Place High School for 4 years while also teaching PE, Sports Performance, and Science. She has also been an Assistant Coach with the NAIT Ooks for the last 5 years and an Assistant Coach with the Centre for Performance for the last 2 years. As a player Lauren won a CCAA national basketball championship with Concordia in 2005, and a CIS national silver medal with the University of Alberta rugby team in 2006. 
 
U14 Boys Coaching Staff  

Head Coach - Amit Mail
Amit will be serving as the Head Coach of the Under 14 provincial team for a second time after a very successful campaign in 2013. Amit brings an extensive amount of Basketball and teaching experience to the team. Amit has nearly 15 years of coaching experience throughout many levels including junior high, high school, zone, provincial programs as well as the Canada Basketball Center for Performance. Currently, Amit is an Assistant Principal at Bev Facey High School in Sherwood Park where he is also the head coach of the junior men’s basketball team.
 

Assistant Coach - Kyle Debolt
Kyle Debolt is a Junior High Physical Education Teacher in Calgary, where he’s lived for the majority of his life. After pursuing his Kinesiology and Education Degrees at the University of Lethbridge, he moved back to Calgary to begin his teaching career. Currently, he is coaching both the Grade 7 and Grade 8 teams at his school, as well as playing in a recreational basketball league. Over the years, he has both played and coached junior high school teams, community teams, elite level club basketball, as well as the U14 Provincial Team in 2013. After the success of the U14 Boys program two year ago, Kyle was more than ready to join the Basketball Alberta staff again for another Spring and Summer of high level basketball. With 22 years of experience playing basketball and 10 years of experience coaching, the game is no stranger to Kyle. Coaching youth basketball is one of Kyle’s greatest passions in life.
 
U14 Girls Coaching Staff  

Head Coach - Brian Anstice
Brian has been coaching for the past 30 years. He has the ability to bring out the best in young athletes, both on and off the court. He helps young players with their confidence and assists them in believing, striving and reaching their goals. Brian has gone back to coaching community basketball after completing a 10 year coaching stretch at Archbishop Jordan High School in Sherwood Park. Brian was with the varsity boys for 5 years and was the Head Coach of the varsity girls program for his last 5 years.
Brian and his wife Darlene have been active in the basketball community for many years, they ran a high level girls development program where they graduated 20 plus athletes to post secondary basketball. The Anstice's raised 3 kids, a son and two daughters. Both girls played post secondary basketball, the eldest daughter Jordan recently coached the Zone 5 Girls to a Gold medal finish at the 2014 Summer games. Brian is eager to work with the Alberta U14 Girls team.
 
Assistant Coach - Lauren Van Dolah
Lauren was born and raised in British Columbia where she played for three years at Capilano University in North Vancouver, and had to cut her playing career short due to injury.  Lauren brings a high basketball IQ and passion for the game into her coaching style. She is the current Head Coach of the Christ the King Sr. Varsity Girls team in Leduc.
 

Assistant Coach - Darren Aughtry
Darren has coached basketball at a multitude of levels over his 30 plus year career. He started coaching high school at Edmonton's Jasper Place and Ross Shepherd high schools in the early to mid 80's. In 1989, Darren was an assistant at NAIT when they won the Canadian College National championship. In 1993 Darren took over as the NAIT Head Coach where he held the position for 6 seasons. Into the millennium he went back to his roots, coaching basketball at both the high school and community level. Darren is known for coaching strong player fundamentals and mechanics.  Darren currently lives and coaches in Sherwood Park. Darren is married with two grown up children, a daughter and son.
