Alberta U14 Girls win Swoosh Invitational U15 Tournament in Olds Alberta - May 22-24
It was the first outing for the youngest of the Alberta Teams and they didn’t disappoint.  The Alberta U14 Girls won 4 straight games over the three day tournament to capture the tournament Championship.  Over the 4 tournament games, Team Alberta only allowed 85 points for a 21 point per game average, while scoring 252 points for an average per game of 63 points.  The young Albertans played tenacious man-man defense throughout the tournament making things miserable and a challenge for their opponents.  At the other end of the floor Team AB utilized every one of their athletes, as every team member contributed with buckets.

Coach Brian Anstice said “the weekend was a great start for our team both on and off the court, the team building exercises, the fun the girls and coaches had was just amazing.  You need to do good things off the court, so you can build a road to achieve great things on the court, well we laid a few stones down this weekend.”

Team Alberta U14 Girls will be back in action May 29/30 in Sherwood Park at the Sabre Invitational.

Weekend Scores:
Game 1 - 56-8
Game 2 - 76-19
Game 3 - 60-17
Final - 60-41

Another "Fun and Exciting" Weekend for Team Alberta U14 Girls Basketball

This past weekend the Girls were in Sherwood Park at Salisbury High School
participating in the Sabres "Battle in the Park" U15 Tournament. The Alberta
Girls won both their opening matches, winning by scores of 99-18 and 76-13
In the final game of the tournament the Alberta crew played an All-Star team
from Sherwood Park that was pulled together specifically to play the Alberta
girls.  The Park team comprised of mainly 15 and 16 year olds took a while
to get going but once they did they pushed the Alberta U14 Girls hard. After
four quarters of play, it was Team Alberta winning 58-39.
Coach Anstice commented on the Sabre tournament in Sherwood Park, saying
"it
was great for team building, the tournament offered a Fun event which
included all teams in a number of crazy fun relays and competitions, great
way to have fun, bond and build team enthusiasm".
Coach Anstice concluded by saying "we were pleased with our efforts and
results, but after playing two straight weekends, it's important and time
that we get back into the gym to train, work on tightening up our defence
and getting into specifics within our offence".  Team Alberta's next
training session is back in Sherwood Park on June 5-6-7.

After team training on Saturday June 6th the U14 Alberta Girls, Coaches and
Parents will participate in a team walk for cancer (Relay for Life) in
Sherwood Park.  A very good friend of the Alberta coaches and long time
community basketball coach and CIS Official Lanny White continues to fight
the disease. There will be many friends of Lanny and friends of basketball
at the Relay for Life in Sherwood Park and Coach Brian thought it would be
great for Team Alberta to join the cause and support Lanny in beating
Cancer.
